Foreign aid commitments to Nepal have increased significantly in the first eight months of the current Fiscal Year (FY) 2024/25.

According to the Ministry of Finance (MoF), Nepal received foreign aid commitments totaling Rs 221.99 billion during the period from mid-August to mid-March in the FY 2024/25. This amount is more than double compared to the same period of the previous fiscal year, during which Nepal had received commitments worth Rs 101.19 billion.

The MoF has reported that out of the total foreign aid commitments received during this period, 25.7 percent was in the form of grants, while 74.3 percent was in the form of loans. A significant portion of the aid commitments is focused on the energy sector, which accounts for 25.4 percent of the total. The second-largest commitment is in the environment and climate sector, with 21.7 percent of the total aid.

Other sectors that received foreign aid commitments include irrigation, which accounts for 12.8 percent, water with 11.5 percent, disaster management at 9.1 percent, transportation at 6 percent, and both agriculture and social sectors, each receiving 4.3 percent of the total commitments.
