Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Minister, Physical Infrastructure and Transport Minister, and Urban Development Minister Kulman Ghising on Saturday conducted an on-site inspection of waste management and road maintenance works in the Bagmati River corridor area located in the eastern part of Kathmandu.

The team—including Urban Development Ministry Secretary Gopal Sigdel, Physical Infrastructure and Transport Ministry Secretary Keshav Sharma, Gokarneshwar Municipality Mayor Deepak Risal, and officials from the concerned agencies-gathered information about the river corridor and road upgrading works from Guheshwari to the Sundarijal area.

The team conducted an on-site assessment of matters such as Bagmati River bank management, sewage management, road expansion, and upgrading works in the area stretching from Guheshwari to Sundarijal.

Minister Ghising said that the problems related to sewage management and road upgrading observed in the Bagmati River corridor will be resolved immediately.

He expressed his commitment to promptly resolving the coordination issues seen among the Department of Roads, the Kathmandu Valley Development Authority, and the High-Powered Bagmati Civilization Integrated Development Committee regarding road construction and maintenance in the river corridor areas of the Kathmandu Valley.

“Since the city can be clean only if the rivers of the Kathmandu Valley are kept clean, we are working with both short-term and long-term sewage management plans. We are gradually establishing treatment centers for sewage management. We are giving high priority to blacktopping and maintaining the roads along the river corridors. For this, we are working in coordination with the local municipalities. We will provide equipment to remove abandoned vehicles left along the roadsides—please ensure that such vehicles are removed immediately,” he said.

If the roughly 100-meter stretch of road on the left bank of the Bagmati River near the Gokarneshwar Temple can be widened, vehicles from Makkalbari can be routed directly toward the Gokarneshwar Temple. For widening the road, necessary coordination and facilitation will be carried out with the Nepal Trust Office.”

He urged that the construction of the remaining bridges required for the Chabahil–Sundarijal road expansion be moved forward immediately.
