Japanese companies have announced plans to invest more than Rs 1 billion in Nepal to introduce advanced technologies in sustainable agriculture, environmental protection, water purification, energy efficiency, and waste management.

The proposed investment was unveiled during the "Japan to Nepal: Innovate, Integrate and Inspire" event organized by Sandipani Group of Companies and Nepal Universal Trading in Kathmandu on Sunday. The initiative is expected to open new opportunities to boost agricultural productivity, promote environmental conservation, and improve energy efficiency through green technologies.

Speaking at the event, FNCCI Vice-President Dil Sundar Shrestha said technology-based collaboration between Nepal and Japan would mark a new chapter in sustainable economic development, agricultural modernization, and environmental protection. He stressed the need to strengthen cooperation between the private sectors of the two countries to promote investment, employment, and innovation.

Sandipani Group CEO Naresh Chandra Ojha said the Japan-Nepal partnership extends beyond trade and represents a shared effort to build the future. "Our common vision is innovation, partnership, and sustainable development. Such collaboration can create new businesses, generate employment, and provide long-term economic opportunities in Nepal," he said.

During the event, Japanese companies showcased a range of environmentally friendly technologies they plan to introduce in Nepal. Tsuboi Iwao, president of Trim Co., Ltd., presented Super Sol, a lightweight porous material made from recycled glass that can be used in agriculture, horticulture, water purification, construction, and green infrastructure, while helping convert waste into valuable resources.

Morita Michio, president of Daiei Co., Ltd., introduced the Oxygen Filter technology, which dissolves high levels of oxygen into water and can be used for rivers, lakes, aquaculture, agriculture, and wastewater treatment. According to the company, the technology enhances microbial activity to support the natural purification of polluted water.

Koshakai Toshiyaki, president of Codou Japan Co., Ltd., presented the company's Super LED technology, saying it aims to supply Japanese-quality LED lighting in Nepal at prices comparable to currently available low-cost LEDs and expand its distribution nationwide within the next three years. He said the technology would contribute significantly to energy conservation because of its low power consumption.

Hajime Mashaki, Chief Technology Officer of Codou Japan, introduced the Mizuki Hi Water system, a chemical- and alcohol-free water treatment technology. According to the company, the treated water can be used to control bacteria, fungi, and viruses affecting crops and poultry and may serve as an alternative to certain pesticides. Masaki also claimed that it can be used to clean wounds and oral sores and that more than 80 percent of dentists in Japan use Mizuki Hi Water during treatment.

Tanaka Yonekazu, president of Mitomi Co., Ltd., presented the company's Sustainable Toilet system, saying it promotes sustainable sanitation through reduced water consumption, improved hygiene, and environmentally friendly waste management.

Ojha said the proposed investment includes Rs 500 million for Super Sol, Rs 250 million for Super LED, Rs 150 million for Oxygen Filter technology, Rs 100 million for Sustainable Toilets, and Rs 50 million for Mizuki Hi Water, bringing the total proposed investment to over Rs 1 billion.

Participants at the event said the successful implementation of these green technologies could help increase agricultural productivity, conserve water resources, improve energy efficiency, strengthen waste management, reduce carbon emissions, and support Nepal's sustainable development goals.
