The authorities of the two countries will organise a meeting to establish the joint mechanism for the initiative, which was finalised with the signing of an agreement during Nepalese Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal’s visit to China in September, said Komal Nath Atreya, head of the project.

With the signing of the agreement, China pledged to provide subsidies for the construction of the cross-border power line at an early date. This is reported by Prensa Latina, a partner of TV BRICS.

It would be the first power line between the two nations, while Nepal has a dozen such lines with its southern neighbour, India.

According to Atreya, the two sides are discussing the date of the meeting of the working groups from the two countries involved.

China has agreed to finance a 16-kilometre section on the Nepalese side, as well as building the transmission line on its territory some 80 kilometres from the common border, he said.

In addition to drawing up an implementation modality, a new detailed project report and an environmental impact assessment must also be carried out, said Dirghayu Kumar Shrestha, head of the transmission directorate at the Nepal Electricity Authority, in a statement.
