Kathmandu Upatyaka Khanepani Limited (KUKL), through its Project Implementation Directorate (PID), has started distributing Melamchi water in Balaju of Kathmandu Metropolitan City and Nagarjun Municipality.

The PID has started distributing Melamchi water in areas under Kathmandu Metropolitan City-16, including Balaju, Buspark, Chapakot, Changali, Lazimpat, Belkot, Shivpuri, Khokana, and in Ward Nos. 1 and 2 of Nagarjun Municipality, covering Kageshwari Manohara, Nagarjun Ban, Vrindavan Mahadev, and nearby areas.

Tika Bahadur Chaudhary, chief of the Project Implementation Directorate, said the initiative aims to improve water supply in the Kathmandu Valley and provide clean, treated water to residents. "Following the campaign to distribute Melamchi water in the valley and the minister's directive, we have called for tender bids to carry out this work. Our goal is to supply citizens with clean and treated water," he said.

The project will improve the distribution network by laying a total of 3,811 meters of pipe along the Ring Road and inside Balaju. KUKL Limited confirmed that it will supply clean and treated water to residents from the Balaju tank.

Once the service begins, the Melamchi project will supply 270 million liter of water daily to different parts of Kathmandu. KUKL stated that the Ministry of Water Supply will end delays in water distribution and streamline the supply process to help alleviate the water crisis within the Kathmandu Valley.

When fully operational, residents of Balaju in Kathmandu Metropolitan City and Nagarjun Municipality will regularly receive treated Melamchi water in the coming days.
