The Birgunj Customs Office collected the highest revenue of Rs 64.5 billion from the import of petroleum products during the first 10 months of the current Fiscal Year (FY).

The office spent Rs 155.94 billion to import five types of petroleum products during this period. Petroleum products contributed 46.26 percent to the total revenue collected from the top 20 imported items. Customs Administrator Deepak Lamichhane, head of the Birgunj Customs Office, said the main sources of customs revenue here depend on the import of petroleum products and vehicles.

The second-largest revenue came from the import of vehicles and their spare parts, which generated Rs 15.24 billion. Vehicle imports and spare parts contributed 10.93 percent to the total import revenue.

Iron and iron-made products contributed Rs 5.25 billion in revenue collection. Machinery and spare parts imports generated Rs 4.55 billion. Imports of electric machinery, equipment, and their spare parts brought in Rs 3.37 billion.

During the 10 months of the current FY, all types of clothing imports generated Rs 2.87 billion in revenue. Imports of tobacco and tobacco-related products contributed Rs 2.23 billion, while cosmetic products brought in Rs 2.22 billion in revenue.
