The pipeline installation work in the tunnel of the 40-megawatt Rahughat Hydropower Project, under construction in Rahuganga Rural Municipality, Myagdi, by Nepal Electricity Authority’s subsidiary company, Raghuganga Hydropower Limited, has reached its final stage. The project has intensified structural work with the goal of beginning trial production within the next three months.

According to the project, the installation of steel pipes (penstocks) inside the tunnel, joint welding, anchor blocks, and protective structures are being finalized. Alongside this, work related to the installation of the powerhouse, switchyard, transmission structures, and electro-mechanical equipment is also being carried out simultaneously.

Raghuganga Hydropower Limited has stated that, after completing the tunnel and pipeline installation, the project will enter the stages of water filling, pressure testing, and equipment testing. Once the trial production is successful, electricity from the project will be connected to the national transmission line.

According to the project management, the construction work is being carried out in coordination with local authorities, consumer committees, and other stakeholders. ‘The main structural work has reached its final stage. If the weather cooperates, we are focused on starting trial production within the scheduled time,’ said an official associated with the project.

Once operational, the project being constructed in Raghuganga Rural Municipality is expected to improve electricity supply in Myagdi district and surrounding areas. The project is also expected to generate local employment, boost infrastructure development, and have a positive impact on the local economy.

The Rahughat Hydropower Project, being carried out through a subsidiary of the Nepal Electricity Authority, is considered one of the key projects to strengthen the national electricity system. Once completed, it is also expected to help reduce electricity shortages during the winter season.
