Shree Ram Janaki Hydro Power Pvt. Ltd. is set to develop the 35.15 MW Upper Apsuwa Khola Hydropower Project in Koshi Province. The project will be constructed in Silichong and Makalu rural municipalities of Sankhuwasabha District.

The company has already completed the feasibility study report and the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) report for the project, which will be built on the Apsuwa Khola flowing through Ward No. 5 of Silichong Rural Municipality and Ward No. 1 of Makalu Rural Municipality.

The Department of Electricity Development has requested concerned stakeholders to submit written opinions and suggestions to both the department and the company within the next 35 days if the project is expected to cause any adverse impacts during construction.

The project will have a design discharge of 9.25 cubic meters per second and a gross head of 467.50 meters. Water from the Apsuwa Khola will be diverted through a side intake structure on the river’s right bank after constructing a dam. The diverted water will pass through key project structures including a settling basin, headrace tunnel, surge tank, and penstock pipe before reaching the surface powerhouse.

The project will use a 1,759.57-meter-long penstock pipe to convey water to the powerhouse. Electricity will be generated through two Pelton turbines connected to two generators installed at the powerhouse.

The project is expected to generate 204.01 GWh of electricity annually. The generated electricity will be transmitted through a 132 kV transmission line and connected to the Nepal Electricity Authority’s Sitalpati Substation located about 24 kilometers away.

The company has proposed to complete the project by 2028/29.
