As many as 1,150 drinking water projects operated by the Sudurpashchim Province government remain incomplete, according to the provincial Ministry of Physical Infrastructure Development.

The Ministry attributed the implementation problems partly to the large number of small projects included in provincial budgets. Nearly 8,000 small projects were included in fiscal year 2025/26, making implementation difficult.

The Ministry said inadequate budget allocation for multi-year projects, budget transfer issues and local disputes over road rights-of-way have also created obstacles to project implementation.

According to the Minister for Physical Infrastructure Development, the upcoming budget would prioritize completing multi-year projects. Drinking water projects with at least 50 percent physical progress would be given priority for completion.
